Rocky Mountain Juniper - tidbitsThe tree we use for our dowels is Rocky Mountain Juniper. Also known as Western Juniper, Rocky Mountain Red Cedar, Colorado Juniper, or Badlands Cedar. It grows almost anywhere in the western Dakota's, Wyoming, and Montana. It can reach 13 meters in height. Some of the characteristics of the cedar are a red, brown and purple color. Hard and durable, fine grain and often knotty. Rocky Mountain Juniper is greatly valued
for its: Due to the amount of resistance to moisture decay, juniper posts can still be found today in the fence lines of cattle ranches from the late 1800's. Cedar is very resistant to decay and insects due to natural compounds called thujaplicins. These compounds make Cedar the perfect wood for about all outdoor uses, especially if your intent is to keep a visual harmony with the landscape. Cedar tends to stay straight and is very resistant to cracking and warpage. These qualities makes our Cedar dowels the perfect material to use for your new yard fence, outdoor railing, or any outdoor use. It also makes beautiful furniture for indoors or out.
